“The Quran is guidance for humanity. It has general principles for the problems of humanity.”
I’ve heard this many a time. “Okay Sheikh so and so. What about my severe depression problems and self esteem and worthlessness issues. You say god cares and loves me, but where is God talking to me to make me feel better and feel like I’m worth something?”
This may be how you felt at one point or another. So what about us, suffering with self esteem problems? Where’s our answer and guidance for getting over our problems? Is there something that deals with the problems we have faced in our lives, leading us to develop emotional issues and psychological dillemas, like ocd or depression, or even more severe cases? So much so we can’t seem to develop a true love of God, Quran, and Islam like everybody else raves and rants on about?
I argue, yes there is. Everybody deserves to feel valuable for who they are. Everybody deserves to feel moved by the words of God. Everybody deserves and requires a sense of self esteem, to feel acceptable for who they are. Why? Because God honoured and made us acceptable for who we are.

And We honoured the Children of Adam
I know, emotionally it may be hard to see it. You may have resentment and even reject that idea after seeing yourself. You may be so depressed you’re having trouble believing in God in the first place. You may feel so hurt and abandoned, and emotionally suffering as a muslim, that you may severely have doubts about God’s care for you, or may feel like denying it altogether.
But, what if there was a detailed explanation from God just for you, trying to give you a clear message to your heart and soul, that you are valuable and acceptable for who you are? And what happened to you yes, was by His permission, but it was to establish you and to make you rise up from the rest, and be honoured? That maybe a way you could believe and love the One who created you.
I argue that there is such a treatment in the Quran. I have tasted it and been amazingly affected by it hundreds of times. Yes, even though I am struggling on and off with the worst type of depression and faith issues, I still was given a divine treatment that does address this issue of self esteem and worthlessness. And we do need and deserve an explanation for why we ended up suffering so miserably. It would be nice to know that God understands our dilemma we are in. And He isn’t ignoring us and our situation. That He has some specific speech and dialogue for those who fell into our boats growing up. And even providing general guidance for getting out.
I will be writing posts about different topics it addresses, and how it addresses it, insha’Allah. But I would like to hear comments below though, about what are some guesses you have about what hadith or surah I am talking about exactly? Please leave a comment about your guesses. I’m waiting and will be reading!
