A source of stress that may not be the most straightforward in our eyes. It is something that I personally haven’t seen being addressed by most sites. Believe it or not, it is overexcitement.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve lost my sleep because I had an engaging conversation, or I got energized by something, or I heard some exciting news that made me super happy. I notice that this is something that overstimulates me, and makes me extra jittery. Of course to a person of normal health, they wouldn’t be able to tell that is a source of stress. Nevertheless, it is.
What am I saying? I’m saying that when we get very excited about something, we are overstimulating our nervous system, and that will give us the jitters and make us feel more on edge. I’m saying that maybe it could be helpful if we didn’t get overly esctatic over something good that happened to us.
So how do we not get overexcited? By detaching our hearts from things in this world. Think about it. These things are so temporary in the grand scheme of things. Even the most amazing things that we get in this world are actually pretty worthless when you compare for the amazing things in store for us in the afterlife.
In this world, we get happy and sad, we get overjoyed and depressed. Good times and bad times, ups and downs. If we ride these emotional waves, it’s not too healthy for the anxious body, is it? Ask Allah, from His extreme generosity for something healthier to attach your heart to. Something that won’t get your emotions riled up and nerves overactive. Ask Allah to attach your heart to Dar-Al-Salam. “The Home of Peace”. The Gardens of Eden. Paradise. Look at how quickly the years have passed us by. And time flies extremely fast. And within a few more years, we will be prayed on in our funeral prayer. And then it’s over. That’s the end of this tiresome and toiling journey. We have something greater in store for us. Let’s get excited about that beautiful, peaceful, exciting abode, where we never will feel stress or anxiety again. Where we will be in a state of peace, tranquility, joy, and bliss, forever and ever. Where the sand is perfumed white musk, where palaces are made of pearls, and where there is no exhaustion. Where nobody ever will hear anything negative or judge you. A place where each day gets better and better, and the food tastes better and better. A place that makes this world look and feel like a constricted prison.
A place that has rivers of honey and milk. The place where we were made to live in for GOOD.
Lets look forward to getting comfortable in that place. Let’s try to make preparations for that place. Let’s dream about that place, more than a few minutes. Let’s get our minds situated and look forward to, and attach our hearts to that place. Let’s see how that makes us feel. May Allah make our hearts attached to Jannah! Ameen.
Now, if you are thinking, “Well you are lucky, because I can’t feel that way,” don’t despair. You can, and the pressure is not on you. The truth is, the idea and peace from thinking about Paradise is a gift that only Allah gives out of His generosity. And with this attachment all your stresses of this world can melt away. Lesson here, that Allah is the One in control, and the One who gives, period. Turn to Him, ask everything from Him, don’t lose hope in Him.
This is something that I am aspiring towards. And I hope all of us do the same. And if you don’t ever think about what’s coming after this life, then you are missing out BIG TIME….
